Egypt announced the use of the metaverse to boost incoming medical travel. Egypt’s General Authority of Health Care made the announcement in an attempt to compensate for tourism losses caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The authority, under the slogan “We Take Care of You in Egypt,” has launched a 3D virtual reality technology to promote medical tourism in the Middle East and North Africa.

Potential patients can use the metaverse to visit health facilities affiliated with the authority in the governorates of Port Said, Luxor, and Ismailia, using 3D virtual reality technology to learn about the facilities’ capabilities and amenities.

Egypt‘s authorities are eager to provide smart virtual services that will be powered by a mechanism that will implement universal health insurance. The goal is to create specific virtual services that will pave the way for a smart future in which customers’ aspirations can be met while also contributing to the efficient use of time and effort.

The plan also aligns with the strategy of shifting more services to the digital world and artificial intelligence, as well as contributing to Egypt’s advanced healthcare model with internationally recognized quality.

The government is also trying to expedite the passage of a medical tourism law, which will aid in the promotion of medical tourism in the country. The task, responsibilities, competencies, and coordination between the health and tourism sectors will be defined by the law.
