Telecom Egypt, Ericsson Achieve Successful 5G Trial in Egypt

Telecom Egypt and Ericsson have completed a successful trial of 5G technology in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital, achieving maximum theoretical downlink throughput in key locations. The trial utilized the licensed 2.6 gigahertz (GHz) spectrum and employed a 5G non-standalone (NSA) solution using Ericsson’s Radio System and core network technologies.

This collaboration marks an extension of Ericsson’s partnership with Telecom Egypt and aims to optimize bandwidth usage, enhancing the network infrastructure. Mohamed Nasr Eldin, Telecom Egypt’s Managing Director and CEO, emphasized the potential of 5G to drive innovation, supporting Egypt’s digital transformation and revolutionizing connectivity experiences.

Fadi Pharaon, President of Ericsson Middle East and Africa, highlighted Ericsson’s historical involvement in Egypt’s technological advancements and the trial’s significance in advancing 5G deployment nationwide. The trial, powered by Ericsson’s 5G Core and radio access solutions, promises improved speed, energy efficiency, and lower latency, benefiting both consumers and society.
