Cisco has introduced a set of new business metrics within the Cisco Cloud Observability framework, leveraging the capabilities of the Cisco Observability Platform to provide enriched business context for contemporary applications operating on Amazon Web Services (AWS). This latest update facilitates seamless integration with AWS services, along with correlation capabilities for application performance monitoring (APM), ensuring comprehensive visibility into the performance of cloud-native applications.

In contrast to conventional application monitoring tools that focus solely on application and infrastructure performance metrics, this release addresses the critical need for clear insights into the relationship between application performance and key business key performance indicators (KPIs), such as customer conversion rates and real-time impact on business revenue. Teams, including ITOps, DevOps, and SREs, can now benefit from a holistic understanding of business impact for effective prioritization.

Cisco’s advancements in full-stack observability empower teams with enhanced business context, enabling them to manage modern applications while safeguarding revenue, customer experiences, and brand reputation. The new features include support for multiple business metrics within a business transaction, an intuitive configuration interface for troubleshooting, and advanced KPI visualization, including baseline performance and historical trend analysis.

For Cisco customers like Royal Caribbean, these insights are transformative. According to Alice McElroy, Director of IT Operational Excellence at Royal Caribbean, “With Cisco Full-Stack Observability, we’ve gone from reactive to proactive. Cisco Cloud Observability will allow us to visualize and correlate metrics, events, logging, and tracing (MELT) data so we can identify, triage, and troubleshoot problems at an even greater velocity.”

Furthermore, this update supports integration with additional AWS services, allowing DevOps teams to observe AWS Lambda functions within Cisco Cloud Observability APM pages. This capability aids in understanding the functions’ contribution to an application, correlating their performance with overall user experience, and swiftly troubleshooting unexpected behavior.
