Huawei Connect 2022, the company’s 7th annual flagship event for the global ICT industry, took place recently. Over 10,000 ICT industry leaders, experts, and partners from around the world gathered under the theme “Unleash Digital” to discuss how to more effectively unleash digital productivity, promote the digital economy, and build stronger digital ecosystems.

Speaking at the event, Ken Hu, Huawei’s Rotating Chairman, said, “All industries are turning to digital technology to boost resilience and productivity, and to reinvent their business models. The digital revolution is happening right now. The demand is there, and so are the technologies.”

Over the past two years, GDP growth has been unstable. Only the digital economy has seen consistent growth on a global scale – more than 15% in 2021. The pandemic and shifts in the global economy are strong reminders for all industries to invest in digital transformation.

On the technology side, broadband networks, cloud, and AI are more than ready to meet demand. Applications like autonomous driving, remote controls, and AI inspection are already creating real value in domains like ports, manufacturing, and energy.

During his keynote, Hu outlined three ways the ICT ecosystem can help break through common barriers in digital transformation. First, is the need to boost digital infrastructure. Digital infrastructure is the foundation of digital transformation. In particular, connectivity and computing infrastructure are two key pillars that need major upgrades. That means 10-Gbps connectivity and supporting billions of connections for industrial scenarios. It also means stronger computing resources for more efficient, diverse computing needs.

Hu stated that Huawei is actively working with industry partners to define, develop, and verify the next evolution of 5G technology – 5.5G – both in fixed and wireless domains. The company aims to boost network capacity, ensure ubiquitous 10-gigabit speeds, and meet industrial demand for reliable, low latency connections

To meet future demand, Huawei is working hard to build a stronger infrastructure for diversified computing, including better coordination between cloud, edge, and devices. At the same time, the company is also driving new innovations in computing architectures and holistic system performance to boost overall performance and efficiency.

Second, support organizations go beyond simple cloud adoption and truly make the most of the cloud, focusing on advanced technology services that drive leapfrog development. By 2025, 95% of all new digital workloads will be deployed directly on the cloud.

Lastly, building a local digital ecosystem to build partner development, strengthen the talent pool, and give more support to SMEs, is key. Huawei is working with local ecosystem partners to create in-depth development plans and is providing them with the expertise and resources needed to build their own solutions. Huawei is also working closely with the broader digital ecosystem to cultivate new talent.

During the event, Huawei announced the launch of new Huawei Cloud Regions in Indonesia and Ireland. By the end of 2022, Huawei Cloud will operate 75 availability zones in 29 regions around the world, boosting services for more than 170 countries and regions.

Huawei Cloud and its partners also launched the “Go Cloud, Go Global” ecosystem plan. With a focus on Everything as a Service, the plan is designed to accelerate the development of a global digital industry ecosystem for joint innovation and shared success.

Huawei Cloud is committed to building the industry-leading platform for cloud innovations by focusing on Everything as a Service. Jacqueline Shi, President of Huawei Cloud’s Global Marketing and Sales Service, announced the global launch of 15+ new advanced services, including Huawei Cloud CCE Turbo, Ubiquitous Cloud Native Service (UCS), Pangu wave model, DataArts LakeFormation, Virtual Live, CodeCheck and CloudTest, KooMessage, KooSearch, and KooGallery, as part of these efforts.

The three-day conference in Bangkok is the first stop on the global tour of HUAWEI CONNECT in 2022. This year’s event, which includes two keynote sessions, six summits, and numerous breakout sessions and demos, delves into the challenges that governments and enterprises face at various stages of their digital transformation journey, Huawei’s advancements in digital infrastructure, and the company’s latest cloud services and ecosystem partner solutions.
